Details

The Academic English course is offered at 2 levels and is designed on a modular framework based on the principles of communicative competence. It is taught by task-based methodology.

Our levels are classified as follows:

  • IELTS 4.5 or equivalent
  • IELTS 5.5 or equivalent

The course teaches students the core skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in international English. IELTS exam strategies and preparatory tests and exercises are conducted in a simulated exam environment and each student is formally tested every 6 weeks and receives a written report assessing their current level and performance.

Material is presented cyclically so that items are revisited at ever increasing layers of depth and complexity as the course progresses. Each student's awareness of the importance of text structures in a variety of the most commonly encountered academic genres (in both spoken and written modes) is emphasised. Additionally, students learn study skills essential to their success at university and tertiary institutes.

QAG arranges for the students to sit their IELTS examination and provides pathways to universities and tertiary institutes both in New Zealand and abroad.
