Overview
The Diploma in Business (Management) is a New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) approved and accredited programme of study. It provides advanced study in business management relevant to current business settings both nationally and internationally.
This qualification has been designed to target students who have already completed a programme of study in business at Level 6.
Graduates from this programme will possess a skill set that is well sought after in today's competitive global business environment. Graduates will have acquired the skills and knowledge to undertake a range of business activities, including marketing and HR roles at middle to high management level.
The topics cover strategic management, entrepreneurship, e-business management, international marketing, strategic human resource management and international business culture. The contents are delivered in an applied manner to ensure that theoretical knowledge is combined with appropriate contextualization. |

General entry
Completion of Diploma in Business Level 6 (or equivalent skills and knowledge.)
English Language Requirement: IELTS Overall band score of at least 6.0 (Academic)
*Students who enrol having completed the New Zealand Diploma in Business L6 or National Diploma in Business(Level 6) will be deemed to have met this criterion.

120 credits distributed across 6 papers (3 papers per academic semester see
below)
International students must be enrolled fulltime and attend classes for 20 hours
per week. This is an Immigration NZ requirement.
Credit may also be granted by recognition of prior learning or current
competency. Students who wish to be considered for credit transfer must submit
original documents and may be required to complete the school's challenge test
for confirmation of prior learning.
You will have to pass 6 papers (all complulsory) to
be awarded the qualification. |

DBM700 International Business Culture
This paper aims to develop the cultural knowledge, awareness and capabilities required in managing international business. The paper also provides a critical understanding of the conceptual notions of culture, how national culture influences management practice, and how to manage cultural differences effectively.
DBM710 Strategic Management
This paper aims to introduce and develop the concepts of strategic management in a critical manner. It develops learner’s analytical and evaluative skills using the strategic frameworks. It also enhances learner’s knowledge and skills in creating, developing and designing strategic plans based on practical application of a strategic management theory.
DBM720 Entrepreneurship
This paper aims to develop skills, understanding and appreciation of the role new enterprise and small business play in the development of a healthy economy. It presents an innovation perspective on new, small, large or social entrepreneurial ventures. This will develop competencies and skills necessary to understand, implement and manage the entrepreneurial innovation process to ensure the long-term viability and success of an enterprise operating within a highly competitive global environment.
DBM730 Strategic e-Business
This aims to explore the approach to e-business strategy covering all aspects of e-business including strategy, digital marketing and supply chain management. This will develop a structured approach to planning, implementing, and assessing and improving e-business strategy for all types of organization. This will also analyse the contents and processes involved in e-business planning, strategy development, managing e-business security and cutting edge e-marketing techniques, and management of changes brought about by e-business initiatives.
DB740 International Marketing Management
This paper aims to provide learners with an understanding and appreciation of the challenges and uncertainties of marketing in an international environment by encouraging critical thinking about international marketing issues at both strategic management and operational levels and foster an appreciation of other interdependent issues which need to be managed simultaneously. The paper will equip learners with the analytic tools, techniques and skills required to create competent international marketing decisions.
DMB750 Strategic Human Resource Management
This paper aims to provide learners with a theoretical knowledge framework for thinking strategically about the management of human resources. It develops a range of skills required for understanding and managing human behaviour in organisational settings. By this, it informs learners about know-how, instruments and policies inhuman resources management in order to achieve competitive advantage through people. It also aims at developing learners’ capability to critically evaluate the theoretical frameworks presented.

Credit Transfer
Cross Credits and Credit Transfer will only be permitted for a maximum of 40 credits of this programme, and this includes any APL credits. Credit Transfers will only be accepted upon the receipt of an official Queens Academic Transcript.
The following criteria will be used when assessing cross-credits.
- The student must have achieved a minimum of a ‘B’ grade (a minimum of 60%).
- A minimum of 80% of the total weighting of the paper must match with the evidence provided for a student to be awarded credit for the paper.
- If 70-79% of the total weighting of the paper matches the evidence provided, the student will be required to complete the relevant paper Challenge Test. The pass mark for the Challenge Test will be 70%.
- If less than 70% of the total weighting of the paper matches the evidence provided, the application for Cross Credits will be declined.
