NZIM Diploma in Management (Level 5) |

Overview
This two-semester full-time qualification consists of six papers from the NZ
Diploma in Business L6, four of which are compulsory. The NZIM Diploma in
Management provides a through grounding in business and management practice
appropriate for people wishing to enter into management roles in business. The
qualification is designed as an exit point from the NZ Diploma in Business for
those students who wish to have a basic understanding of management practice,
but do not wish to specialize in busines studies. It also provides a platform
for students wishing to transition to degree programmes or advanced management
qualifications such as the NZIM Diploma in Management ( Advanced). The NZIM
Diploma in Management constitutes an NZQA approved 120 credit Level 5
qualification. |

General entry
Completion of NCEA Level 2 or international equivalent.
English Language Requirement: IELTS 6.0
Students without these entry requirements must complete the school's entry test
before enrolment is confirmed.
Mature age entry
20+ years of age and relevant work experience
Special Entry
On a case-by-case basis at discretion of the Director, Academic Programmes
On-going intake throughout the year
One Year (full-time) / Two semesters of 12 weeks (plus 1 week exam) each
120 credits distributed across 6 papers (3 papers per academic semester see
below)
International students must be enrolled fulltime and attend classes for 20 hours
per week. This is an Immigration NZ requirement.
Credit may also be granted by recognition of prior learning or current
competency.
Students who wish to be considered for credit transfer must submit original
documents and may be required to complete the school's challenge test for
confirmation of prior learning.
You will have to pass 6 papers in total consisting of at the four core papers
and two optional papers (see below) to be awarded the qualification. |

Core Papers
530 Organisation and Management
Understanding management philosophies and current management practices, the
influence of the internal and external environment on organisational behaviour,
the importance of ethics and social responsibility, the decision-making process
and delegation, the functions and roles of managers, organisational structures
and team dynamics.
560 Business Communication
Business communication theories and practices, understand self-concept,
perception and cultural influences on the communication process, understand
interpersonal communication skills, do an oral presentation and various types of
business writing, and understand communication flows in an organisation and
meeting management.
630 Leadership
Apply concepts of leadership to business situations, the influence of culture on
leadership, evaluate own abilities and their leadership potential, discuss
leadership in relation to social responsibility and compare how leadership
concepts are applied to different types of businesses.
636 Applied Management
Select a local NZ business, research its operation, then write a project
proposal with recommendations for improvement, write a report on the application
of management concepts to an identified business problem, then critically review
the completed project process and the research outcomes.

400 Accounting Principles
This paper covers the business environment, accounting policies, financial
statements and their components, analysing and reporting on business performance
and the use of management accounting tools.
510 Introduction to Commercial Law
An introduction to the NZ legal system, contract law, consumer law based on
everyday situations, understand negligence, property law Including intellectual
property, privacy law, alternative dispute resolution, legal entities, ethics
and employment law.
541 Fundamentals of Marketing
Understanding how environmental factors impact on marketing decision-making,
analysing the concepts of market segmentation, targeting and positioning,
recommending marketing mix variables to allow market strategies, the marketing
planning process and buyer behaviour factors.
550 Business Computing
Evaluating the parts of a business information system, evaluating communication
technologies, computer ethics and safety and using software applications
(Microsoft Office) to produce information to meet business requirements.
430 Quantitative Business Methods
Identification of data types, present data in graphical formats on a computer,
the use of correlation and regression, produce and explain forecasts, describe
sampling techniques, describe the Consumer Price Index, apply probability
distributions and the use of statistics for quality control.
632 Operations Management
Explain quality management and use techniques to improve situations, select and
justify appropriate facilities, apply appropriate project management techniques,
determine appropriate performance measures for an operations system, understand
capacity management and resource planning and understand supply chain, materials
and inventory management.
633 Human Resource Management
The impact of the environment on HR management, job design and job analysis,
recruitment, selection and induction, a training and development plan,
performance management and the evaluation of remuneration and rewards,
legislative requirements for health and safety in the workplace and the
collection and storage of HR data. |
