Work Oppurtunities

We can offer you advice and assistance in searching for a job while you are studying! This applies only to international students who have the right to work while in New Zealand. This is clearly stated on your visa/permit.

Work while you study

If you enrol in a Diploma course or an English language course (where you have an IELTS score of at least 5.0) of 1 year duration or more, you will be eligible to work for up to 20 hours a week during term time and full-time over the summer holiday period.

Upon completion of a Queens Diploma course (formally recognised by the New Zealand immigration service), you will be eligible for a six-month Graduate Work Permit. This allows you to seek employment in NZ. Once offered employment you can apply for a full work permit by your prospective employer.

Working holidays

If you are from Korea, Japan, the UK, Ireland, Germany, the USA, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Malta, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hong Kong, Malaysia or Singapore, then you can apply for a NZ working holiday visa and permits online.

Employment Options

Hospitality

The hospitality industry is a great place to get a job. Jobs range from hotel reception to bar work and waiting tables to kitchen work. Jobs in hospitality can generally be found in cities and hotel/accommodation work in regional towns.

Temp Work

Short term work can be found through temp agencies in call centres, telesales, IT support, data entry, office administration and customer service roles. You will have the opportunity to work in a lot of different companies.

Contract work

Professionals can find fixed term and contract employment in IT support, customer service, graphic design, desktop publishing and other professional service industries. Contract work is found through online NZ job sites like www.seek.co.nz

Farm work

Farm work can also be provided if you'd like to experience life on a New Zealand farm. This can either be paid work or volunteer work in return for free lodging and food.

Fruit picking and vineyard work

Fruit picking work is seasonal in natural and can generally be found in horticultural districts of Marlborough, Otago, Hawkes Bay and Nelson.

Labouring and construction

Work can be weather dependent, so there's always more in the summer periods than the winter. Most of the labouring and construction is in the central cities.
